Call For Art from LGBTQ2S+ Artists

The Emerson Center for the Arts and Culture invites Montana artists in the LGBTQ2S+ community to submit artworks for consideration for an exhibition at the Emerson to be held May 9, 2025 – June 23, 2025, in conjunction with Pride Bozeman. The show aims to showcase the artwork of queer artists currently residing in Montana. The exhibition does not have a subject matter theme but rather aims to celebrate the range of talent and abilities amongst these artists.

The exhibition will be guest curated by Richard Parrish, a renowned and queer artist working in glass and watercolor. Richard and his partner live in Bozeman. For more information about Richard please visit his website. Curatorial decisions are final.

Selected artwork(s) will be exhibited in the Weaver Room and/or in the Lobby Galleries of the Emerson and must be acceptable for all ages.

Artwork
Only two-dimensional and low relief works will be considered. Work must be ready to hang, including appropriate framing and hanging hardware. Low relief work must be less than 4” deep. Both of the galleries for this exhibit show large format work very well. Individual works smaller than 8” x 8” will not be considered for this exhibit.

Artists must self-insure their artwork. The Emerson makes every effort to protect the artwork but is not responsible for damage or loss.

April 15 - Artists’ submissions due
April 21 - Selections made and artists notified
May 1 - Artwork due at the Emerson, delivered or shipped
May 9 - Exhibition opens during the Emerson’s 32nd Birthday Celebration
June 13 - Art walk and reception for exhibition
June 23 - Exhibition closes
June 24 - Pick up artwork or arrange for return shipping

Submissions
Each artist may submit up to 5 works of art for consideration. These must be the same artworks that the artist intends to display in the exhibition if accepted. Substitutions are not accepted. Artwork must be acceptable for all ages. If you are unsure if the subject matter is acceptable, please inquire prior to submission.

Submissions must include:

• Up to five digital images (not to exceed 1MB in size) – title, media, size.
• Brief artists bio and statement.

Submissions must be received by April 15, 2025. Only electronic submissions will be accepted. Please email to education@theemerson.org with subject line: "Queer Artists Exhibit – Last Name, First Name".
