Exhibit by Candace Forrette
The work in this exhibit is informed by my feelings for and observations of the land. Smoke-fired ceramics, together with other natural materials like copper and muscovite (mica), have become – for me – a voice for expressing those feelings and those observations.

Artist Statement
The somewhat minimal, yet made-by-hand qualities of the work reflect my feelings about the landscape and about our place within it. This use of minimal form and the repetition of elements allows for a space for meditation, reflection and belonging. Over the years, many different natural materials have attracted me. Such materials – clay, stone, wood, paper, even fire itself – all have their own “voices” that they bring to a piece. The best work comes from “listening” to what the materials suggest.
